Samsung's recently unveiled Windows Mobile smartphone is indeed the Samsung SGH-i780 as it is now confirmed by a document of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. It seems to be even brand new (it just received its Bluetooth approval beginning this month). So what's known so far?
The SGH-i780 is sporting Windows Mobile 6 Professional and features triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 900/1800/1900 MHz as well as singleband UMTS/HSDPA at 2100 MHz. Furthermore it features Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi b/g and is expected to even include GPS (type unknown)!Quite unique for a Windows Mobile device is the 2.55" 320 x 320 pixel touch-screen (AFAIK it's even the first Windows Mobile smartphone with this new screen resolution). In addition, the device features a QWERTY thumb-keyboard and a kind of optical mouse:
The SGH-i780 is expected to feature a
3.22 megapixel main camera and a second VGA front camera for video telephony. According to reports from the Gitex, the device measures 115.9 x 61.3 x 13.3 mm.
Internal memory is unknown yet but it can be extended by microSD cards.A release date or release area isn't known yet, but based on the supported GSM and UMTS bands, a release can be expected for EMEA and APAC, especially because some European Samsung Mobile websites (UK, Germany, Spain) lists it already:
